The most important factors for long-term sustainability are strengthening healthcare infrastructure, ensuring adequate financing for health, and helping to build local healthcare capacity through training and support. Public/private partnerships have a critical role to play in this process, drawing on the complementary expertise of all stakeholders—governments, international agencies, community organizations, donors, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, patients and others-to identify the most promising and efficient ways to address the impact of HIV/AIDS in a variety of resource-limited settings.
