Merck published its first environmental report and publicly announced environmental improvement goals in 1990 and has been reporting on progress and environmental footprint measures since 1993.

This report includes Merck's environmental performance data for the combined company for the years 2009 and 2010. Because the company is only in its second year after the merger with Schering-Plough, no trend data or discussion of trends is included in this report.
